The chicken across the street.

I know I use the following expression often but it seems to fit so many residents so well.

One of our more pleasantly confused residents sits by her window looking outside most of the day. When we enter her room she is always talking about the chickens across the street by the barn. Now mind you, our nursing home is smack dab in the middle of town just on the edge of the business district. When she first said this I figured she was just seeing some lawn ornament that was a chicken so I looked to see it.No nothing, no ornament,no chickens nothing at all.
Now this has been going on for several weeks and again today she pointed and said look at the chickens. And like a crazy darn fool I looked out the window to see if there were any.And again NOTHING,NOT A ONE NO CHICKENS!!!!! So i decided to ask some more questions,I had some free time and I wanted to know more.
I asked her ,so how many chickens dare there? She told me around twenty of them.I then asked what were they going to do with them,to which she responded, well butcher them!!Like I was to know????LOLOLOLOL
As some of the staff was eating today we were talking about this and one of the house keepers admitted she too keeps looking for those chickens too.
I should know better. This comes from the same women who one day showed me a picture of a cockier spaniel and said that was her new grand child and she what a cute thing she is.
Yeah I know some people (myself included) think of their pets as children. However I kinda wonder about this one.
Oh the fun of work. Seldom a day goes by without at least one good laugh.

Just wait until she hears them clucking and asks you to make them be quiet.

I love how you accept all of their quirks and take the time to talk with them.
You really are a blessing to the people in your home.
